eCopy Desktop™
Document Distribution and Management
|
|
|
eCopy Desktop is a client-based software that provides network
users with the ability to treat eCopy document files just like
paper, right on their desktop computer. With eCopy Desktop,
users can view and annotate, perform Optical Character
Recognition (OCR) to generate editable text and store or
distribute eCopies from their desktops. eCopy Desktop also
allows users to combine or separate pages from multiple
eCopies to create a new document of selected pages, or attach
a signature stamp.
For easy distribution of eCopies, the Desktop software uses
the system's native e-mail application to create e-mails with
the eCopy as an attachment. Users simply employ the familiar
e-mail interface to select a recipient, add a subject line
with
cover note, and send the eCopy on its way.

eCopy Connector Enables Users to Save Paper
Documents Directly to CANON imageWARE™
Document Management
Easily Store, Modify, and Distribute
Paper-based Information Electronically
Lake Success, N.Y. and Nashua, N.H., June 29,
2004 — Canon U.S.A., Inc., the nation's market
share brand leader in black-and-white and color
laser copier/printer solutions, and eCopy, an
innovative provider of document distribution and
integration solutions, today announced the
availability of the eCopy Connector for Canon
imageWARE™ document management solutions. The
Connector enables users to save hardcopy
documents directly to the imageWARE Document
Manager Enterprise Edition, making it easier to
store, modify and distribute information that
was originally only available on paper.
Using the eCopy Connector, mutual customers can
scan, index and save scanned documents to
imageWARE's document content repositories using
their Canon digital copier. Storing paper
documents electronically is advantageous because
it provides an audit trail for regulatory
compliance requirements, such as the recently
legislated Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
"Now, imageWARE users can better manage the
lifecycle of paper documents by easily including
them in their digital workflows," said
Dennis Amorosano, director and general manager,
Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A. "The
Connector extends the value of imageWARE, giving
customers a more productive and cost effective
way to share paper-based information."
The Connector enables users to input imageWARE
specific attributes and document indexing
information, such as document type and format,
at the Canon digital copier. Once scanned,
authorized users can store documents directly to
specified locations within imageWARE, where they
are immediately available for retrieval.
"The Connector is tightly integrated with
imageWARE functions, assuring customers that
eCopy-created image files are stored, indexed
and managed consistently with their existing
content management procedures," said David
Toub, eCopy vice president, product marketing.
"It provides the means for users to
collaborate effectively and intelligently with
paper as electronic files. It also protects
against unauthorized access by requiring users
to select the appropriate imageWARE library and
corresponding imageWARE username and
password."
Canon's imageWARE Document Manager Enterprise
Edition is an entry-level document management
system that is optimized for small workgroups
and project teams working in small businesses,
departments and branch offices that manage
potentially thousands of documents per month.
The Enterprise Edition supports high volume
retrieval, archival and records management, as
well as day-to-day document sharing between
distributed users.
eCopy "connectors" directly link the
eCopy Suite to enterprise applications, enabling
paper documents to be tightly integrated with
these applications. The eCopy Suite, coupled
with the scanning capabilities of a Canon
digital copier, enables organizations to
transform paper documents into electronic
documents. Using the eCopy Suite, organizations
can provide open access to scanning that
connects to e-mail, fax, document management
and other networked enterprise applications for
a low-cost, easy, instantaneous distribution
and management of digital copies of paper
documents.
The eCopy Connector for Canon imageWARE™
is
available now and can be purchased through
authorized Canon resellers.
